On 29th March 2011, during the period in which the flying season was just about to begin and the classroom every afternoon was full of student pilots doing groundschool something terrible happened.
Early in the morning, our headquarter – office building – caught fire and was completely burned.
Firefighters were acting really efficient saving most of our vital paperwork that was stored inside. Unfortunately we have lost tons of equipment and of course all the rooms and offices (briefing room, flight planning room, MD office, HT office and many others, among which was also freshly redecorated classroom with all the teaching aids).
All the furniture, office equipment (such as: computers, photocopy device, printers, facsimile, laptops and projector), were burned or have melted from the heat. This also refers to some of pilot supplies such as headphones, VHF transceivers and aviation GPS devices. Things that we do regret the most are priceless keepsakes: eighty-year-old pennant and a large standard of Aeroklub Gdański.
Currently the temporary office has been arranged in rented containers. Some extra office space will be granted form storage rooms adjacent to the hangar.
Currently the office building remains are being demolished. This is done with help of many aeroclub members as a social work. The next steps would require us to consult with municipal authorities the possible reconstruction of the office building, than creating a new building design and concept.
As our main incomes are membership fees, we already know that we would not be able to finance such an investment.
All the facilities were insured, but the probable compensation will only be sufficient to cover the cost of some equipment that we have lost (furniture, office equipment, and computers).
From this place we would like to appeal for help to reconstruct our burned office building.
We are looking forward for any means of help – financial and material (office equipment, furniture, and computers). We guarantee to provide you constantly with a current status of all the grants that we would receive. You will be up-to-date with new building design and reconstruction process.
We can assure you that your company logo and all the credits will be exposed in our new headquarter. This would also have a reflection in all the local and regional media.
Aeroklub Gdański was established in 1929 by a group of aviation enthusiasts as an associacion. It is the one and only aeroclub in the whole region which has all the certificates: Flight Training Organisation Certificate, Aerial works certificate, maintenance facility certificate, airworthiness management certificate.
